The Portuguese Archive of Social Information (APIS) is a scientific infrastructure acting on the domain of preservation and dissemination of social science data. Based at Instituto de Ciências Sociais, University of Lisbon, the archive works towards the acquisition and sharing of digital data for the purposes of public consultation, secondary analysis and pedagogical use. The archive comprises a range of datasets provided by research projects of the national scientific community.

APIS has been developing a partnership with CESSDA-ERIC, where CESSDA stands for Consortium of European Social Science Data Archive and ERIC stands for European Research Infrastructure Consortium.

APIS has been certified as a Trustworthy Data Repository by the CoreTrustSeal Standards and Certification Board until 01 September 2024: CoreTrustSeal Certification 2020-2022. It was a hard journey, but enormously worthy.

With regard to the national context, APIS, together with the national node of the European Social Survey – ERIC , form the Production and Archive of Social Science Data (PASSDA) which is part of the Portuguese Roadmap of Research-Infrastructures, launched by the national funding agency FCT in 2015. PASSDA aims at the production, analyses and archiving of data provided by national and international social sciences studies. It was instituted as a partnership between research centres and units of the University of Lisbon, ISCTE-IUL, the University of Coimbra and the University of Porto.
